Moving Checklist

Relocating to a new town, street or apartment is an event most would rather do
without. Although the idea of new surroundings and views are the finale to the
dream, the beginning of any relocation starts weeks even months before the actual
move. At Chicago moving we understand the complexities and difficulties of any
residential move, big or small. After all, when you sign your names to the lease or
mortgage you never think of the dragging of couches down stairs onto a truck and
back up the stairs do we?
By utilizing Chicago Moving out of Chicago, you alleviate your worries and concerns
by allowing us to physically relocate your entire home without you ever lifting a box
out of your front door.
What this means to you is, you can LIVE in your new home without having to make
that always tiring “last trip”.
But what about before you physically move. So much to do, so little time!!
Here’s your Chicago Moving checklist! Use this checklist to make sure you
remember important moving dates and deadlines. We’ve taken the worry out of
moving by thinking of nearly everything!

8 weeks prior to the move:
Arrange to transfer school records if you have children.
Contact insurance companies to notify them of the move.
Start a “Move File” for all receipts, papers and estimates related to your move.

6 Weeks prior to the move:
Reserve your movers by calling the Chicago office of Chicago Moving at 1-773-403-
7453
If you are moving to a new city, be sure and ask your attorney, doctor and other
providers for referrals and any necessary records.
If you have any pets, schedule a check-up and be sure and get a copy of their
records from the veterinarian.
Set schedules with real estate agents and/or landlords.

4 weeks prior to move:
Schedule disconnect dates with your local utility company.
If you are packing yourself, obtain packing materials (boxes, packing paper, tape…)
Notify new utility company of connect dates in the new home.
If you have a lawnmower or any other power equipment, drain them of oil and
gasoline. Moving companies will not move them if they are full.
Cancel newspaper delivery and trash pickup effective on your move date.
Notify landlord of your intention to move / If you are moving from a high-rise,
reserve the elevator for moving day.

2 week prior to move:
Start packing items you won’t need until after you arrive at your new house.
Begin sorting out those items you do not plan to move. Sort belongings into those
you will dispose of, take with you, and ship with mover.
Plan how you will arrange furniture in your new residence, and make a list of things
you will need to buy.

Last few days prior to move:
Send out change of address cards to post office.
Pack your luggage and anything you are taking with you.

Moving day:
Sit back and enjoy the day, you did enough in the past few weeks now let Chicago
Moving do the rest for you…
We look forward to making your relocation as stress free and enjoyable as possible.

Sincerely,
The Chicago Moving Family
